Really enjoyed the weekend.

I've always been proud to be a Hwa Chong debater, but the weekend really did help me remember why. Not because the cases were fiendishly unassailable or ingenious (of which some were), but rather because it embodies quite a lot more than just good debating. There also is the mutual concern and familial spirit, the notion that debates can and perhaps should be fun. That debating to win is important, but not everything. To take losses uncomplainingly, but to work hard nonetheless.

I've forgotten some of it now that I've stopped representing the school, and it helps to go back to the roots.

Always am proud of Hwachong and sometimes I wonder why. Depending on when you ask, sometimes I end up deciding that i'm irrationally schoolist and that's okay. Other times I come to recall that Hwa Chong stands for certain ideals, and that it is home in more ways than one. And resonance with all of that is why I am school-proud.

I'm very happy for everyone, results and all. Especially glad that everyone came out of it with no regrets, and that it was an awesome tournament that everyone will remember. Being able to represent the school for something does foster a bond of unique strength - no amount of match supporting will make up for school representation. And I'm glad that we've become a more inclusive place.

I'm proud of my team's result as well of course. It cements some things, inevitabilities which would probably have come to pass anyway. I'm not reveling or thriving in the roles I play, but I'm adjusting and hopefully coping well. On occasion there's a lump in the throat, and some emptiness inside, for which I need some confiding. By and large though I don't think I'll have any regrets, which is perhaps most important.
