Dear life.
Life's like clinging on to a cool, silvery rail, dangling off a long drop to oblivion
You start strong, do a few pull-ups. All the flashy, wasteful, immaterially impressive stuff of youth.
You sometimes even manage to throw an arm over the rail, trying to climb back into the paradise of safety.
You wisely give up once you deem it impossible. But of course, why would life's programmers give you any exit clause at all?
You look skyward, it being anatomically awkward to do otherwise. You get a cramp in the neck. A merely mental one, because you daren't look down, daren't comprehend anything but the divine.
Your palms start to sweat, and you curse them. Hoping to dehydrate yourself so much your accursed sweat glands deactivate.
Your mind grows weary and tired. Soon you move back into basic survival instinct, rather than elevated consciousness. Feel the primal need for life searing through your veins.
Your muscles ache and atrophy, soon they cause so much darned pain that ricochets back up to the consciousness. You grip harder, your palms sweat more, your veins throb with blood flowing at extreme speeds, 'cos both brain and hands need the blasted oxygen, your legs flail around seeking companionship in anything but each other
You're losing grip.
You can't help but let go.
And then you enjoy irony in freefall. The struggle is over way before you hit the ground.
