One of the greatest detriments to being a debater is that you can justify everything in so many dratted different ways, to so much argumentative sophistication and logical consistency, that you have no real idea where your heart lies anymore.

Withdraw back into the philosophy of the whole business, that debate is more about listening than anything else. And is it, most of all, listening to yourself!

Listen, the heart does beat.
