Some people have no life.
Some people have a life.
Of the some people who have no life, some need a life.
Of the some people who have no life, some don't need a life.
Of the some people who have a life, some need to have no life.
Of the some people who have a life, some don't need to have no life.
Two positive statements, and four corresponding normative ones.
I sank into the existential doldrums for awhile, and pondered these six statements (which I had previously scribbled somewhere). Evidently no deep existential thinking was triggered, but ohwell. It is possible to sort all people into the last 4 subsets I believe, though people might disagree with each others' versions.
Pulling these statements to a coherent logical maximum, whether one has a life is really of no consequence. In either category there exist both people who need to traverse the distinction between 'life' and 'no life', and people who are fine exactly where they are.
Implication, it is what one makes of one's place, how well one fits into either of the first two categories that truly matters. Because happiness is the highest good, and that needs confidence and comfort in your own shoes. :)
