At sixteen, you can legally have sex.
Across the globe, you're agitating to vote.
To drink. To drive. To take on everything in the adult world.

I just want to be trapped, fixed in the safety of the event horizon
Between ten and twenty plus one, I'm on the old side of my youth now.
Age means nothing, except what meaning you give it.

A month or so ago I began worrying that I'd spend my sixteenth just like anyone else.
I've grown a month, a year older and two fridgefuls of maturity older since then.
Quietly my sixteence arrives, setting my existence aglow.

(5th June 2011: now I'm waiting and wondering about my eighteenth. I think 'sixteence' was deliberate. don't remember what it meant though.)
