Okay, basically today was torture. By physical standards in any case. A brief outline of the day, then an intense and prolonged complaint about PT and PE.

English in first period. I was talking to Zi Cong, a highly matured and responsible boy who is also academically excellent, regarding MSG if I'm not mistaken. Then Mr Quek told us to raise our hands and I was last because I wasn't paying attention. He got really pissed and I got torn apart by the chariots of guilt, dragged in the sands of embarrassment. Shouldn't have done that, especially with my earlier resolutions. As anyone would know, I rarely keep to my resolutions. Thus its okay if they are... completely unrealistic. Haphazard presentation on transhumanism, but I really don't expect euthanasia to be any better.

Followed by PE. The most dreaded period in the week. May sound really weird... anyway those who failed the 2.4km run/walk by the previous guideline of 14 minutes 30 sec had to rerun and I was one of them. Due to the incessant pain in my ankle that won't ease. The others got to play soccer in the middle of the sprawling field while us, the failures, had to run round and round, encircling them. I started pretty well as usual... 2 min 32 despite walking, then it drew longer and longer and further and further and in the end I perished. Muk only ran 5 rounds. I lapped him at the last juncture. Surprisingly I failed. 16 minutes is hellishly long. I have only myself to blame, for consenting to let myself lag behind XYZ. At the very end I felt I still had enough energy for 2 more rounds. Should have burnt it. Now I'm down for regular torture intervals. Monday and Wednesday, early morning jog. To build stamina. Don't mind, I have to pass my NAPFA anyway.

Maths was uneventful, Clement chuckling away like a maniac. That guy acts lame, he would be given hell in St' Hilda's... Literature. Having slogged my guts out trying to get everyone to hand up their stuff, I had 25/25 entries for the Lit ACE records. Yet. A mere 15/25 people handed up their literature files, with 5 haphazardly done ones included (no content page, etc.) Fortunately I wasn't blamed... Chinese I got back "si han" or private letter writing... 18/20, its like English situational. I tied for highest in the class, which was rather okay with me. Goh Shao Wee though, wouldn't let it rest at that. Having tied with me for Chinese, he gloated the whole of recess with a dumb grin on his face. I tied with him "leh!" So happy! I outdone myself! Well... thats really discouraging. People trying to topple you at every juncture. Gregory's worse off. 1L's aristocracy's primary goal is to topple Gregory. He's apparently invincible, with consistent A1s...in almost everything.

Science we continued the Engineering the Impossible video. Millenium should be built in Singapore. Despite the logistics problem of not having a steel powerhouse within hundreds of miles. Hong Kong has Japan nearby, but it is earthquake-prone, no matter how minute the possibility is. I find that the video tends to look on the bright side. Supertankers crashing into bridge pillars and the bridge still being upright. Come on... be more pessimistic. It never hurts. Before that we had a revision session with Mr Tan constantly repeating, "Its easy isn't it? Its so easy... one lesson can go through everything. See? Aiya no need worry de, the exam is chickenfeed." But whatever he classifies under "easy" is often an onerous, backbreaking uphill task that would wear out the posthuman marathon runner. I eked out a borderline A1 for the science test, nonetheless with Lady Luck on my side.

After that a delicious lunch interlude of sambal fried rice. Tasted rather good, but a little uncooked. NCC was next on the least. I look forward to it, somehow. Drills are fun, PT is better, but NCC is the BEST!! We had a surprise PT test, comprising pushups, situps and a 2.4 km run. Oh my god, I thought. My kneecaps and ankle seriously bruised and sore, I simply could not imagine finishing it. I did a commendable 36 standard pushups in 1 min 52 seconds. Considering my paunch and my weight and my inferior arm strength it was a miracle I held on that long. All were standard because GSL, the most stringent of the NCOs, with the exception of the medic, was counting. He is known for repetitive drilling and high standards with little praise. That is my interpretation. But he is successful though. 31 situps in 1 minute. I think I slid backwards compared to last year, but still okay I guess. 16 minutes 43 seconds for my run. Failed by 43 seconds due to ankle problems, blah blah. Thank goodness the very very nice medic was running beside me, encouraging. I shall train harder so as to be able to pass...

The joyous game session next. Split into two, so I didn't see Jia Han nor Wei Cher. In turn split into Alpha Bravo Charlie and Delta. I was in Delta, which is a rather cool name I guess. Basketball we were playing. Lost the first game 4-2. I broke a personal historical record of actually scoring one. A brief description of how it happened.

"Charlie Gordon was doing his characteristic thunderbolt with much charisma, and there was little hope for us left. This manoeuvre was renowned for its devillish efficacy in eliminating the opposition. However, Marcus the superhero punched the ball away. All this while I was stoning under the net, waiting to scoop up some botched attempt on goal. The throw in. Our timer passed to Charlie Gordon, who began sweeping the field. Tackled by Marcus again, he passed to me in a great arc. Having honed my skills as consistent captain during St' Hilda's captain ball days, I caught it. Looking very blur I looked for someone to pass to. Some smart aleck from the other team told me to shoot. I shot and scored. Still looking very blur. Wow. Then Gordon scored, followed by Solomon. Because of this irritating rule that you can only score 1 per match, I spent the rest of the 5 minutes sulking and tackling others in very bad sport."

Then the losers round. Winners vs winners Charlie lost. Losers vs losers... we trumped them 6-2. I opened the scoring, making history along the way. Pretty much the same, only it was from a further distance. Marcus then our section IC scored too. A pretty disconsolate bunch of people strode off the field. They had scored a consolation.

Today was a pretty enriching day. I found out I could actually play basketball. Awesome. Well now I have to tussle and struggle and wrestle with an inhuman pile of homework. Holiday homework, but evil nonetheless...
